Don't fret the division!!!!!!!

MATH UPDATE:  As the year is marching right along, so are the 5th grade math concepts.  We have been accomplishing a hefty agenda each week with everyone's perseverance, hard work and the "I can " attitude.  This week we are practicing long division with one digit divisors.  Hang in there...don't give up.  This week there will not be a quiz on Friday...just  more drill and practice which we in fifth grade know leads to PERMANENCE of skills!!!!!!

SCIENCE UPDATE:  In science, we are going to be investigating and learning about Sir Isaac Newton and his three laws.  We will start to prepare for a BIG, HUGE, end of the unit test on Motion and Design.  We have learned a lot and had lots of fun using the K-Nex to test theories and learn vocabulary words.

WELLNESS UPDATE:  Each week to start our wellness lesson, we participate in a 5 minute physical activity.  We have completed stretches, some aerobic exercises, and just recently have been practicing the Electric Slide.  If you are interested in learning it, ask your Team Barracuda Student and they should be able to share it with you.

REPORT CARDS:  Report cards will come home on Wednesday, November 6, 2013.  If your student is pleased with their results, keep up the good work habits.  If they are displeased, have them set a goal and make daily changes to support the goal to increase the grade or score.  We have so much potential on Team Barracuda...we want to be sure everyone works to their best.

Olweus Anti-Bullying Program

North Strabane was treated to a fantastic program on the morning of October 16th.  Some very wise sixth graders started the program with some words of wisdom and their experience participating in this program from last year.  I heard a sixth grader say, "North Strabane does not leave anyone behind."  Visitors to our school "Drake and Gabby" then  performed rock n roll songs set to an anti -bullying theme.  In the end, we were entertained by North Strabane's Pep Squad.  They performed a choreographed routine and then invited everyone to say North Strabane's cheer together as one group.  "We don't like bullying at our school.  It isn't right and it isn't cool.  NSIS wants to be, safe and fun and bully free.  NSIS bully free...NSIS bully free... NSIS bully free."  WOW!  What a great morning.  Thank you to Pep Squad representatives Brandon Adams, Carley Phillips, Max Husa and Lauren Rudy for representing us so enthusiastically.

Science News

We have been having a lot of fun in science learning about force, mass inertia, gravity, and design of vehicles.  The students will have created their own cars following guidelines and have drawn technical drawings.  They have also followed a technical drawing to create a standard car to test force and mass.  The fun continues with rubber band energy and more challenge designs to come.  Stay tuned...

Team Barracuda's Blog

Welcome to an online communication tool.  Mrs. Reda, Mrs. Snyder, and Mrs.Andronas will post classroom happenings on this blog on a weekly basis.  October is proving to be a very busy month for us.  We are into routines and a structured day and are being very productive in our studies.  Parents...please always remember to check your child's agenda for homework assignments.  If they say they did it in school, please ask to see it to check for accuracy and completeness.  If they are to study, please study and or test them on the small sections that are written in the agenda.  We are promoting small segments to learn and master over a period of time, as opposed to cramming studying into one night before the test.
